Summer finally arrived

Summer finally arrived.  On the calendar as well as weather wise. What ever happened to spring.  All we had was the wet season as the the cold.

Going to be a bumper crop of blueberries this year

No idea who this guy is but I am trying to identify.

Wow! The internet is truly fantastic.  Response to my online inquiry yeilded a response from an entomologist at cornell university.  I introduce you to Dicerca or also called Metalic Poplar Borer.

The rose garden?

While we have never really intended to plant roses in large quantities it seems we are doing so none the less. Here are the latest arrivals.

A dedication to those plants that refuse to die

So in the yard there are some plants that weren't doing well or didn't belong. Here I have a rose that had been dug up twice to remove it as it never did well. Last year it came up with a single cane again so I staked it and it now is blooming. I now suspect it may be a climbing rose and will need to install a trellis or something.

The other it a Spirea shrub that was mostly dead.  It was moved to the wastelands to get it out of the way. The following year a new shrub grew in from the old roots. On top of that the old shrub in the wasteland became two healthy ones. Move it all back to where they began and now have three healthy shrubs.

It finally happened!

OMG! It finally happened!  Two days of sun in a row. Amazing what can happen when the sun shines.

First peony blossoms

Centaurea

Failed experiment,  potted some roses and they got hit by aphids really bad. If they survive the summer I have a home for them.

New this year, Sassafras tree.  Finally starting to grow.

First geranium blossom

Rhododendron

There are so many blossoms on the vines off the living room deck I might actually be able to make wine this year.
